Privacy Policy
G'day! We're Vamuz, a small family-run campervan and camper trailer hire business on the Sunshine Coast. We only ask for what we need to help you plan and enjoy your trip, and we look after it. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, who we share it with and what your choices are.
We're a small business, so the Australian Privacy Act 1988 may not formally apply to us. We still follow the spirit of the Australian Privacy Principles because it's the right thing to do. This policy isn't legal advice.
Who we are
Vamuz is run by Chris from Warana on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. When this policy says "we", "us" or "Vamuz", it means us.

What we collect
Depending on how you use our site and services, we may collect:
- Contact details: your name, email address and phone number.
- Trip details: group size, pets, trip length, route ideas, off-road plans, hire dates and any notes you send us.
- Chat messages: what you type into our Ask Vamuz chat assistant, and which van you asked about.
- Off-road briefing details: if you complete our pre-trip off-road briefing, your name, email, phone, hire dates, driving experience, planned destinations, questions and the checklist items you tick.
- Booking details: when you book through Camplify, Camplify shares the details we need to manage your hire, such as your name, contact details and booking dates.
- Payment details: if you buy our $99 trip planning service, payment is handled by Stripe. We see your name, email and what you paid, but never your full card details.
- Website usage information: things like your IP address, browser and device type, pages visited and how you found us. This is collected automatically by our website platform, analytics and embedded content.
We don't use GPS trackers or dashcams in our vehicles. We don't ask for sensitive information (like health details). Please don't put things like card numbers, licence numbers or passwords in the chat or forms.
How we collect it
- From you directly: when you use the chat, fill in our Plan My Trip form or off-road briefing, email, call or WhatsApp us, or talk to us in person.
- From Camplify: when you book one of our vehicles through Camplify.
- Automatically: through cookies and similar technology on our website (see section 7).
Why we use it
We use your information to:
- answer your questions and help you choose the right setup;
- plan your trip and send you your itinerary;
- prepare for and manage your hire, including pickup, drop-off and safety briefings;
- take payment for our trip planning service;
- improve our website, our chat assistant and our service;
- keep our site and services secure and stop misuse; and
- meet our legal obligations.
We won't sell your personal information, and we won't use it for anything unrelated without asking you first.
Our chat assistant (AI)
The Ask Vamuz chat on our site is an AI assistant, not a person. It answers from our own knowledge base about our vans and hires, but it can make mistakes, so please double-check anything important with us directly.
When you use it, your messages are sent through Cloudflare to Anthropic, an AI provider based in the United States, so it can write a reply. We keep a record of chats, linked to a random session ID rather than your name, so we can follow up on questions it couldn't answer and improve it. Chat records are kept for 12 months and then deleted automatically. Please don't share sensitive or financial details in the chat. If you'd rather talk to a human, just call, WhatsApp or email Chris.
Cookies and analytics
Our website runs on Squarespace, which uses cookies and similar technology to make the site work and to understand how it's used. We also use Google Analytics to see things like which pages are popular. Embedded content (such as Google Reviews, Instagram reels and maps) may set its own cookies.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although some embedded content may not display. You can also opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Our off-road briefing saves your progress in your own browser (local storage) so you don't lose it. It stays on your device until you submit or clear it.
Overseas disclosure
Some of the services we use store or process information outside Australia, mainly in the United States (for example Squarespace, Google, Anthropic, Stripe, GitHub and Meta), and Cloudflare operates data centres around the world. We choose well-known providers that take security seriously, but overseas privacy laws may differ from Australian law.
Storage and security
Your information is kept in our business email and in the secure accounts of the services listed above. We keep access limited to our own team and use security features such as two-factor authentication where they are available. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the reasons above, or as long as the law requires (for example, tax records). Chat assistant records are kept for 12 months and then deleted automatically. Emails and form submissions that we no longer need are reviewed and deleted regularly. Camplify keeps booking records under its own policy.
Access and correction
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. Just email hello@vamuz.au. We'll respond within 30 days, and there's no charge.
Marketing
We don't run an email newsletter or send marketing emails. If we ever do, we'll only send them with your consent and every message will have an easy way to unsubscribe.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we've handled your information, please contact us first at hello@vamuz.au or 0448 103 539 and we'll do our best to sort it out quickly. If you're not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add a new service. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
